Preface 7
The contributions to this pamphlet are
designed to expose facts relevant to the fastest
growing industry in the USA (prisons) and their
relationship to the New Afrikan Nation
As New Afrikans, we have come to fully
appreciate the significance of this industry, in
its genocidal scheme to destroy the New Afrikan
Nation.
our continued subjugation is absolutely
dependent on our willingness to ignore the fraud
and violence inherent in the colonial/neo-
colonial system, which we continue to accept as
“he force governing our social, economic and
political lives.
The New Afrikan reality in Amerikkka,
persists. We are still being mown down in the
streets and in our “homes” by the agents of the
state (police,) convicted and sentenced for an
average of 40 years in colonial state prisons.
This creates generational gaps sufficient to be
equated with genocide. We still have our wealth
systematically “gangstered” (taxes) while we
naively scream for more prisons - never even
imagining that the plan of the state is to
destroy us as a nation within a nation
The life lessons that have been passed on
for generations through our survival culture and
our defense mechanisms, including collective
aggressive actions when necessary, seem to have
taken permanent leave
As a direct consequence, we have become
comfortable as we continue to be de-sensitized
and conditioned to the daily abuses and outright
assaults to our New Afrikan humanity
This pamphlet is an indication of the
potential that lies within the bowels of the
colonial beast. This presentation is an effort
to awaken those forces in the New Afrikan Nation
who are capable of effecting meaningful change
in our collective condition. We do this by
informing New Afrikans of the colonial state’s
intentions.
s
It has been said that prison is a microcosm
of society. Consequently, the only difference
between New Afrikans on one side of the wall or
the other, lies in the degree to which our
mobility is restricted.
Despite this reality, I am confident that
there is enough information presented here to
begin today and continue - moment by moment - to
collectively challenge some of these atrocities.
We are a Nation. We're a strong, resilient
people. We are worth the struggle!

Contradictions Intensify at Indiana Supermax
As we embark upon the new year, the laghip of the “new” Indisna D.0.C., the
‘Supermaximum Control Uit known as Maximum Sccurity Facit, in Westville Indiana, has
become consumed by a seres of ntensifing contradictions that foreshadow a fture calamty.
“This fcilty once housed only level prsones of admirisirative segregation satus, nder an
agreed enny.
At opering in 1991, the it ran or over seven years unti new agreed entry was
‘mandaied, allowing the it to accept segregation offenders who had caugh iternal inractions.
‘The D.0.C. Prisoncratsobjecive was et temporarily, allowing them to snaich up pisoners out

considered 0 be influcnial threals” 1 systematc sensory deprivation, solation and repressive

In ll respects it i sae 10 say that these plan fuiled, and in a rushed cal for help the D.O.C.
peitioned the courts fox clearance to house DIS (Detention Segreglion) offenders, which ult-
imately prevented the Governor rom shuttng this place down.
CONDITIONS DECLINE
‘When I came here in December, 1994, the ron fis ofrepression was n full swing, The racism
here was overtly expressed an the gurds were quick (o insigateor provoke situations between
themselves and prisoners. Since my retur Dec 23, 1998, afer being sanctioned with one year of
segregation time, | have witnessed and endured the ugiiness of complete mismanagement and
‘complete disorder. The once spoless lors are now overrun with dirt, ants nd other nsects and
trash. Thisplace was the eptome of sanitary excellence. In two year period, the admiistration.
has stopped enforcing the maintenance policy that it was known for Thisiresponsbiity on behall

ANTAGONISMS AMONG STAFF
As the condiions progressively worsen for prisoners, prisoncrats have lso been overworked
‘because of under-staffng. these condilons have made i such tha a normal -hour work day no
longer exists. Prison employees are being orced 1o stay on the job (by contract) o work over-
time, whenever extra manpower s needed. This creates overt animosity between employees and.
theprisoncrat, duc 0 employees being kept rom being home with theirchidren and wives
“These conditons of course pose the isk that employees will begin 1o harass prisoners, being

Indiana State Prison I3
* Exposed and Uncul *
I've been on the secured housing unif (1.D.U.) a
maximum control unit at the Indiana State prison, located in
Michigan City, Indiana. The unit operates under lhe
prefense of disciplinary segregation. This is frightening
because there is no way lo accuralely gauge the damage.
However, | know and feel wilh every fibre of my being, that
I've been touched by somelhing cruel and unnatural - the
control unit.
Allow me fo infroduce myself properly. My name is
Stoney Akeem Omari Ayubu. On 4/23/97, 1 was charged
with an assault on another inmatle, which never took place.
However, | was placed on | - D - U confrol housing and
received a 3 - year {long term) lockup segregation, due to
my behavior.
Of course, it was never proven that a fight had taken
place. In fact, the person that the assault was said fo have
been directed against, wrote a statement and a personal
letter to Superintendent Al Parke and Mrs. Janeen Stewart,
stating that nothing happened at all. This was to no avail.
Doing my stay on 1. D. U. control unil, | personally
wilnessed men being tolally destroyed, assaulled,
repeatedily threalened and deprived of privileges.
The conditions are aggravating. It's @ man-made hell
and a cesspool of horror, that the system execules. I've
witnessed racst pigs physically remove prisoners who were.
beaten, forlured and weakened from lack of food, causing
mental and emotional frauma to victims and also other
prisoners.
Systematic withholding of mail, punishing those who
demonstrate an uncooperative attitude and set-up
conduct reports, are in store for all natural leaders. Poverty
and racist discrimination is significant in the criminalization
process. However, since most poor people and people of
color do not engage in crime, then neither poverty nor
racial designation alone or in combination, can account for
criminal behavior.
Those who are held accouniable for criminal behaviors
are those who are already condemned in the eyes of the )5
law and who have llfle or no voice.
Real orimagined, the racist pig's prejudices are fed with
carelully prepared propaganda, specifically designed to
create an allitude of lolal helplessness among black males.
Whal we are wilnessing s a diabolically effective form of
subliminal seduction.
The C. A. B., the unit team committee, the conduct
adjustment board, the racist ass officers and even the ulfra-
liberal court system, are all playing a major fole in this
deadly process.
There is nolhing rehabiltative about 1 - D - U control
housing units or N. S. B. control units. They are both
designed fo destroy the logical processes of the mind.
Aman's thoughts can become completely disorganized.
I should be clear that our struggle against the prison system
is bigger than just a slruggle for prison fights. Itis a part of
our historical struggle against slavery, known today as
colonialism.
By colonialism, | simply mean rule by foreigners for
economic exploitation and political advantage. The need
fo build a mass prison organization fied o the overall
slruggle for black freedom and led by our own
independent revolutionary movement, is self-evident.
Prison praclices are leading to our sell-destruction and it
‘we don't have the common unily fo prevail over this
pervasive deslruction, it will inevitably lead 1o our exfinclion.
Reactionary white power is moving full speed ahead
and the colonialjustice system is revealing itself as white
lynch-mab juslice. But unfortunalely, it goes largely
unrecognized, so it remains unchallenged.
There has been a deliberate effort to demoralize inmates
on these so-called control units, and serious efforts o
delude society concerning the goings-on in these death
traps. This is a war against us. “Us" can be descibed as all
those who do not support the establishment and the
enforcement of systemaic genocide and incarceration.
The usage of Ihe ignorant to destroy the ignorant is a
diabolical scheme.
This neo-colonialism can also be seenin the growing ¢
numbers of Afrikans who act as administrators of the
colonial state, such as police and officers within the prison
systemifsell,
The struggle conlinues and the enemy must either
recognize the fact that we will not succumb 1o his
oppression or be moved aside by Ihe force of the masses
and brought fo trial.
The falling of one is the rising of another and the wicked
shall not rest as long as the righteous know where they
sleep.
Respecllully,
Stoney Akeem Omari Ayubu

Political Repression on Indiana’s Control and Segregation Unilsg
2
My name is Zaid Kamau Tychimba (s/n Arthur Green) and 1 am a
politically conscious New Afrikan prisoner within the Indiana D.0.C.
Twas captured and imprisoned at the age of 18. 1 am now 35. Of the
17 years in which I've been in prison, over 11 of these years have been
spent on disciplinary or administrative seg., including over the last 8
years straight.
Tam serving a 45 year sentence for a crime in which | was drastically
overcharged. This is an expericnce that is nothing new to the New
Afrikan community in general, and the New Afrikan youth in particular.
We are the primary targets of this genocidal tool called the judicial
system. Despite not being conscious of this fact, 1 was a victim of
political repression from the very beginning. However, it would be
Several years before 1 would be able to make this connection.

brought from the street. [ wasn't in prison a full four months before |
experienced my firststretch on disciplinary scgregation. Disciplinary
segregation is where I was first introduced to progressive revolutionary
iterature. It would nonetheless take a couple of more trips to D/S before
I became receptive in the truer sease of the lterature and the teachings
of the politically conscious brothers whom were very patient with me on
those sets.
Tbegan o notice that every time I was sent to lock up, | encountered
for the most part the same politically conscious brothers who were on
lock up during my previous trips to D/S. I was able to make these
abservations because my own political development was under way. It
became clear that lock up was an inevitable reality for those politically
active comrades who engaged in progressive and principled struggle by
agitating, educating and organizing around various issues and just
pushing a progressively aggressive line. I lcamed carly that there’s often
a price 1o pay for standing on revolutionary principle. And that price is
paid by hook or by crook. If they can’t hook you up on some
disciplinary charge, be it trumped up or otherwise, they"l criminally
segregate you on some administrative seg. unit for some imaginary
reason not because of some misconduct that you were found guilty of
committing, but rather because of some misconduct that they think or
claim you might commit. This is insane! s political repression of the
highest form!
Out of the more than 11 years that I've spent on seg. units, well over
4 of these years have been spent on administrative segregation.
To be sure, I am a politically conscious and active prisoner, but by no
means do Lintend to paint a picture that all of my scg. time has been the
result of political activity. Nevertheless, I have and continue to put in
work. One thing is for cectain, given my history of resistance, the
reasons that these settlers continue o segregate me on these control units
for eight consecutive years, is political beyond question. And I do not
use the term “control unit” loosely.
‘The Indiana D.O.C. opened its frst super max control unit in April,
1991. [ made my firsttrip to super max, commonly known as the
miximum control complex (MCC) located in Westville, lndiana.
Tam presently at Westville’s supermax, and I am scheduled to be
transferred to another institution within the next 30 days. This will
complete my fourth trip at supermax. Since the opening of the MCC, the
other maximum control prisons, such as the state prison in Michigan
City and the Reformatory in Pendleton, have increased their repressive
measures. Particularly on the disciplinary scg. units upon my retur to

the DS unitat the Reformatory in 1992 after my first stretch at MCC, |
found that we were preseated with a whole new disciplinary program, 33
‘The Reformatory D/S unit had incorporated a lot of restrictive measurcs
that were executed at MCC into their disciplinary scheme. The
disciplinary seg. units across the whole state essentially became
miniature control units as MCC became the model that other seg. units
attempted to emulate.
‘The dialectical process s forever dynamic. Just as we know that
repression breeds resistance, and so it goes with consciousness, because
along with the resistance comes an understanding of the need o resist.
Having said that, I think that it's fair to say that the emergence of these
control units and other repressive measures, have given risc (o a
heightened level of consciousness among the New Afrikan prison
population in general, and the New Afrikan youth in particular.
‘These control units are repressive and inhumane and designed to
break the resistance and spirit of a person. Being subjected to such
extreme repression can mentally and physically drain you and take a lot
outof you. But I'm of the opinion that just as it can take a lot out of you,
it can also put a lot in you. Bear in mind that all development comes on
the basis of contradictions and the breaking down and resolution of
contradictions (ideological struggle.) As the contradictions continue to
sharpen, 50 too will the intensity of struggle between opposites and on
this basis, a new reality will begin to take shape (development.)
Toward a better future,
Zaid Kamau Tyehimba
